FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Dade Medical College Donates $500,000.00 to the Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital Foundation

Charitable gift to help children of Broward and Palm Beach Counties access quality healthcare services

MIAMI, FL – September 28, 2011 — Dade Medical College is donating $500,000.00 to the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital Foundation, the Hollywood, FL-based Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital's philanthropic arm. College Vice Presidents of Community and Governmental Relations Elizabeth Martinez and Jorge Alvarez presented a check for $100,000.00 on Friday, September 23, 2011, the first of five installments to be provided on a yearly basis through 2015.    

 

          "This represents the most sizeable donation we have committed to making yet and are delighted that it will help the children of Broward and Palm Beach Counties for years to come," says Dade Medical College President & CEO Ernesto Perez. "The type of specialized care that the Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital provides is essential to the well being of area youngsters."

 

          "We are very proud of our kinship with the Memorial Health System and especially with the Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital Foundation," offers Martinez. "Our long-term commitment to support the specialized programs at the hospital and celebrate the good work that they are doing only brings to light our focus on healthcare and education. The benefits that the children and families will receive from this donation are invaluable and we believe there is no price tag on taking care of our community's children."


          Joining Martinez and Alvarez at the check presentation ceremony were Vice President and Executive Director, Memorial and Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital Foundations Kevin Janser, Chantal Leconte, Associate Administrator from the Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital and Zeff Ross, Senior Vice President and CEO, Memorial Regional Hospital.

          Established in 1994, Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital Foundation (www.jdchfoundation.org) raises funds to assist patients and their families and to underwrite the cost of programs, facilities, and equipment at Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital, the leading children's hospital in Broward and Palm Beach counties. The new Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital opened its doors to patients on July 21, 2011. The four-story, 180,000-square-foot facility has six operating rooms,   imaging services, and an entire floor dedicated to pediatric oncology care.
